Security Fasteners in Prison estates
Unlocking sales of Security Fasteners to the custodial/prison sector
Since 2015 England and Wales has seen a prison building revolution with £1.3 billion being invested in building an additional 10,000 prison places, over nine new prisons. However, since Carillion went into liquidation on 15 January 2018 there has been a huge hole in the building of new prisons and in the supply of maintenance to the UK prison estate (of which Carillion holds almost half of the contracts).
So how will this void in the supply of building & maintenance contracts be resolved and what opportunities does that offer suppliers to the prison estate? Firstly, we can expect to see the issuing of new tenders for Carillion’s halted building project and maintenance contracts.
The prison/custodial sector is a key sector for the supply of security fasteners.
Our products are specified for new builds and refurbishments, extensively used in a wide range of applications; from cell doors, furniture, windows, sanitaryware, ventilation, high security fencing, electrical channel, fixtures and fittings, to name just a few.
Also there is the potential to supply of fasteners for maintenance contracts (annually worth £320 million in the UK). Over the next few months, we will be looking at ways to help our distributor partners access these potentially lucrative opportunities within the prison/custodial sector.
If you are currently working on a project within this sector we’d love to know about it and would be happy to help in any way we can. If you have a question call our team on 01686 621 300.
